OREM—Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay has announced his team's 2023 schedule which features a tough non-conference slate highlighted by home games against ACC foe Clemson on Aug. 24 and crosstown rival BYU on Sept. 2.
"True to what we stand for we have created a non-conference schedule that will challenge us with some of the top programs in the country," said Lemay. "We recruit players that want to play in the biggest environments, and we have provided that opportunity scheduling five Power 5's and four teams that participated in the 2022 NCAA tournament. We feel like we will gain the experience we need in the non-conference segment of our schedule to be well prepared to defend our WAC Championship. BYU and Clemson at home should both be firecracker matches and we are hopeful that we fill Clyde Field with our awesome fans!"
The Wolverines head into the 2023 season fresh off the team's fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and the team's first-ever at-large bid into the tournament. UVU returns 11 letterwinners, including eight starters from last year's squad.
Utah Valley officially opens the 2023 season with a pair of matches in the Aloha State as the team will play its season opener against Hawai'i on Aug. 17. The team will also take on Houston Christian in Honolulu on Aug. 20.
UVU will then return to Orem for its home opener against ACC foe Clemson on Aug. 24 at Clyde Field. Clemson made a ninth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament last season. The Wolverines will then head right back on the road for a pair of games at Idaho State on Aug. 27 and at in-state rival and Pac-12 foe Utah on Aug. 30 in Salt Lake.
The Wolverines will host crosstown rival BYU on Sept. 2. Utah Valley split a pair of road games against the Cougars last year, picking up a 4-2 win against the then No. 13 Cougars in Provo before falling 3-0 to BYU in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
Utah Valley will wrap up non-league play with three straight road games at USC on Sept. 7, at Long Beach State on Sept. 10, and at California on Sept. 15. Both USC and Cal earned spots into the NCAA Tournament last season.
UVU will open Western Athletic Conference play at California Baptist on Sept. 21. UVU will also play WAC road games at Grand Canyon (Sept. 24), at Tarleton (Oct. 5), and at Abilene Christian (Oct. 8).
Utah Valley will open WAC home play at Clyde Field against Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 28. UVU will also host WAC matches against UTRGV (Sept. 30), Seattle U (Oct. 14), Utah Tech (Oct. 19), and Southern Utah (Oct. 23).
This year's WAC Tournament will take place Oct. 29-Nov. 4 at CBU Soccer Stadium in Riverside, California.
