OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley Universtiy women's soccer team has announced its 2018 signing class. The Wolverines signed eight players on Wednesday who will join the team this fall.
Signing their national letters of intent on Wednesday were Hailee Atwater (Kaysville, Utah), Julianna Carter (Jasper, Texas), Katie Haskins (Provo, Utah), Madeline Moore (British Columbia, Canada), Marissa Mills (Renton, Wash.), Karli Nyland (Highland, Utah), Danielle Orr (South Jordan, Utah), and Rachael Tagatauli (Laie, Hawaii).
"Our 2018 incoming class has a lot of experience playing at the highest level in the club game," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We have big plans for some of them to step right into impact roles this fall. We have added players that are committed to continuing their development and have ambitions to play post collegiate soccer. This signing class comes from different parts of the US and Canada and we are happy to add some of Utah's best, along with players that have come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Our 2018 fall schedule includes three Pac-12, one Big 12 and three WCC opponents so we will get to see where our freshmen and team as a whole is well before we start WAC play."
Atwater was a three-time all-state honoree at Davis High School where she helped her team to three Utah 5A State championships (2014, 2015, 2016), two undefeated seasons, and a pair of national titles (2015, 2016). During her tenure at DHS, Atwater also helped the Darts to a pair of undefeated seasons and the state record for most consecutive wins. The 5-foot-5 midfielder most recently played club soccer for Utah Celtic FC.
Carter, a 5-foot-8 forward/midfielder, prepped at Jasper High School in Texas where she helped her team to a state championship title match in 2016 and a pair of state semifinal appearances in 2015 and 2017. Carter earned the Beaumont Enterprise Texas Super Gold MVP, the VYPE SETX Player of the Year award, and the District 19-4A MVP in 2017 after recording 59 goals and 29 assists. Carter recently played for the Albion Hurricanes club team.
Haskins was a four-year varsity starter at Timpview High School in Provo. She earned first team all-region honors during three of her four years at THS, and was named to the all-state honorable mention team this past season. The 5-foot-6 outside back helped her team to a state title in 2016. She played club soccer at Utah Celtic FC and Utah FC.
Moore, a 5-foot-6 midfielder from Heritage Woods Secondary in Port Moody, British Columbia, was a member of Team British Columbia for the 2017 Canada Summer Games. She also competed at the Canadian Nationals in both 2016 and 2017. She is a member of the British Columbia Provincial Program and is currently the team captain for the Coquitlam Metro Ford Storm in the British Columbia Preview League. Moore led her teams to four Provincial Championships.
Mills prepped at Liberty High School in Renton, Washington. The 5-foot-3 defender was a second team All Kingco 2A/3Ahonoree and helped her team to a third place finish at the state tournament. Mills was also a four-year letter winner in track and field at LHS. Mills played club soccer for Pacific Northwest Soccer Club (2016-18) and Eastside FC (2012-16).
Nyland is a 5-foot-9 forward from Lone Peak High School in Highland, Utah. She helped LPHS to the quarterfinals of the 2017 5A state championship this past season after recording five goals and six goals for 16 points. She registered 20 goals with nine assists during her time with the Knights. She led her team to a state cup title in 2016 and a second place finish at regionals. She played club soccer for the Silver Bullets, Utah sol, Forza, and Utah FC.
Orr was the captain of the Bingham High School soccer team that made a run to the 6A State semifinals in 2017. The 5-foot-10 keeper was named to the All-State team this past season and earned Region 3 Outstanding Keeper honors and was named the Region 4 MVP Goalie this past year. She was also impressive in the classroom, earning Academic All-State and Academic All-Region honors.
Tagatauli is a multiple all-state honoree from Kamehameha Schools in Laie, Hawaii. The 5-foot-6 midfielder helped her team to the ILH league championship in 2018. She earned second team Interscholastic League honors in 2015, all-state honorable mention honors in 2016, and second team all-state honors in 2017. She also played for Hawaii Surf Soccer Club
