Peterson & Modler named to All-WAC teams

OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University seniors Trevor Peterson and David Modler were selected to the 2018 All-WAC baseball teams, the league office announced on Tuesday. Peterson was named to the first team as an at-large selection while Modler was named the second team's second baseman.
 
Peterson batted .337 and was tied with Modler with a team-high three home runs during WAC play. He also had nine of his 13 doubles during conference play and slugged .515. The nine doubles tied for fourth among all WAC hitters in league games.
 
Overall, Peterson led UVU with a .306 average, finishing his career with a .331 batting average, seven home runs, 25 doubles and 52 runs batted in. He is Utah Valley's first, first-team selection since 2016, when Mark Krueger, Greyson Bogden and Danny Beddes were all selected.
 
Modler led the Wolverines during conference play with a .360 average, which ranked eighth among all WAC hitters. In addition to his three home runs, he had four doubles, nine batted in and a .442 on-base percentage.
 
He batted .294 overall with five home runs and finished his career with a .306 batting average.
 
Around the rest of the league, Grand Canyon took home the Player of the Year honors in Quin Cotton while Andy Stankiewicz was named Coach of the Year after leading the Lopes to their second straight regular season title. GCU is competing in the WAC Tournament for the first time, going in as the top seed.

Jonathan Groff of New Mexico State was named the Pitcher of the Year while the Aggies also had the Freshman of the Year in Nick Gonzales. NM State was well-represented with six players on the first team and one more on the second team.
