Bozeman, Montana - The Utah Valley State women's basketball team lost to Montana State on Tuesday 74-65. The Wolverines held small leads in both halves but Montana State went on a late run in the final five minutes to put the game away.
Kaydee Allred led Utah Valley State with 15 points. Jessica Scabby and Jasmin Fantl each had 11 points. Fantl scored her 11 points in six minutes of action. Miriam Palkki had a game high 11 rebounds. The Wolverines shot 40 percent from the field.
Utah Valley led through out most of the first half. They jumped out to an 8-4 lead following back-to-back baskets by Allred and Rebekah Fales. Montana State then scored six straight points to take a 10-8 lead with 13:46 left in the first half.
The Wolverines countered with a 10-2 run of their own to take an 18-12 lead following a Palkki jumper and a Kelci Naihe 3-pointer. But the six point lead soon turned into a seven point deficit. The Wolverines led 25-21 with five minutes left in the half. Montana State then scored seven
straight points to lead 28-25 with 3:55 left in the half.
Courtney Lynn scored a basket to cut the Bobcat lead to 28-27 but Montana State then scored six straight points to lead 34-27 with 18 seconds left. Palkki scored a basket in the final seconds of the half to cut the MSU lead to 34-39 at halftime.
Utah Valley scored the first five points of the second half to tie the game at 34-34 following a bucket by Allred and a 3-pointer by Naihe. Scabby then had back-to-back buckets to give the Wolverines a 38-37 and 40-39 lead five minutes into the second half.
MSU rallied to lead 46-42 but a 3-pointer by Fales and Fantl gave Utah Valley a 48-46 lead with 10:11 left in the game.
The Bobcats later regained the lead at 59-53 with 3:57 remaining in the game. The closest Utah Valley got the rest of the way was three points at 59-56 with 3:40 left in the game.
Utah Valley State is back in action on Thursday when they play at the University of Utah on Thursday at 7 p.m. They return to the McKay Center on Saturday for a 7 p.m. tip off against Southern Utah.
