Laramie, Wyoming – The Utah Valley State volleyball team rallied from a two-game deficit to beat the University of Wyoming 21-30, 29-31, 32-30, 30-26, 15-9.
"What a comeback by these girls," Utah Valley State coach Sam Atoa said. "To do this on the road against a Mountain West team in Laramie with only nine players made this great. The girls just made great adjustments tonight."
It looked as if Wyoming was going to win the match in three games as they led the Wolverines 29-26. But after three unsuccessful attempts at swinging for match point the Wolverines rallied for the 32-30 win.
"The girls made the right moves and played well there," Atoa said.
In game 4, Utah Valley State jumped out to a 10 point lead and held on for the five point win. The momentum carried into the deciding game as the Wolverines controlled the momentum from the start and cruised to the 15-9 win.
"We were ahead the whole time and the girls just wanted it," Atoa said. "It was exciting to see them play so well, especially in the fifth game."
Camie Manwill led the Wolverine offensive attack with 18 kills. Jessica Endres added 17 while Anne Olsen had 16 kills. Both Manwill and Olsen recorded double doubles as they recorded 15 and 14 digs, respectively. Setter Lacee Koelliker was one kill away from her first career triple double. She had nine kills, hit .308 and did a nice job setting up the Wolverine offensive attack with 59 assists, to go along with 14 digs.
"Once we settled in we just did a great job," Atoa said.
The Wolverines travel to Greeley, Colorado Saturday for a 7:00 pm (MST) match with Northern Colorado. In six overall meetings, Utah Valley State has never defeated the Bears. Follow live stats of the UNC match by clicking HERE.
