Wolverine Update:
Utah Valley State (10-10) got back to .500 with a three game sweep of in-state foe Westminster College on Tuesday, October 25th. The Wolverines are .500 this late in the season for the first time in their three seasons of a NCAA Division I school.
Setter
Lacee Koelliker was named Division I Independent "Setter of the Week" last week for her performance against #15 BYU and Northern Colorado. Koelliker recorded 95 assists in two matches (11.88 a/g). She also had 9 kills and hit a timely .346. Against UNC she tied her own school record (for the third time this season) with 65 assists and helped four Wolverines to double-digit kills. As a team the Wolverines hit .218 in the five game match. Against #15 BYU she had 30 assists and 4 service aces.
UV has three players who average over three kills per game, in
Jessica Endres (3.33),
Anne Olsen (3.30) and
Camie Manwill (3.08). Endres re-took the team lead in total kills with 263, and still leads in hitting percentage at .337. Olsen had 261 kills, and Manwill has recorded 237.
Middle blocker
Brooke Adams has come on strong for the Wolverines, averaging just under two (1.98) kills per game and hitting .254 on the season.
Scouting the Opposition:
UTPA: The Lady Broncs come into Friday's match with a 7-14 overall record. They are 3-3 over their last six matches. UTPA is led offensively by Kellie Phillips (3.08) and Heather Bravo (3.05), who both average over three kills per game. Phillips has 240 kills on the season while Bravo has recorded 238. Chelsea Blakely (5.97 a/g) and Karen Lyons (5.87 a/g) share setting duties.
TAMUCC: The Islanders are 4-2 over their last six matches and are currently 9-10 on the season. They play fellow Independent Northern Colorado on Friday, October 28th before taking on the Wolverines on Saturday the 29th. TAMUCC has two players averaging over three kills per game in Anna Machado (3.75) and Kati Broom (3.48). Brazilian Paula Araujo finds her teammates at a rate of 9.27 assists per game.
Last Time Out:
Westminster (10-25-05): The Utah Valley State volleyball team cruised to a three game sweep over Westminster College on Tuesday night, 30-27, 30-26, 30-22 in the Activity Center.
Jessica Endres pounded out 16 kills and hit .600, while fellow middle,
Stephanie McFarland had 8 kills and hit .615.
Lacee Koelliker, who was named Division I Independent "Setter of the Week," earlier in the day had 46 assists. The Wolverines get back to .500 at 10-10 with the win and the Griffins fall to 13-11 and snap an eight game winning streak. In game one, the Griffins stayed close most of the way, but ran out of breath in the end, due in part to a late Wolverine 4-1 run to close out the game 30-27.
Camie Manwill led the Wolverine charge with six kills in the set, and Endres added four. The Griffins took a 12-8 lead in game two, but let the Wolverines get back into the match by going on a 6-0 run to take a 14-12 advantage. The Griffins would fight back and make an 8-3 run of their own to retake the lead at 20-17, and force a UV timeout. The Wolverine offense would score nine out of the next twelve points, including five kills by
Brooke Adams to get back in the set and take a 26-23 lead before Westminster called timeout. UV would cruise from that point to a 30-26 win. Endres had six kills in the set. Game three was back-and-forth through the first half with the Wolverines holding on to a slim 19-17 lead. UV would extend that lead to 23-18 and pull away to 28-22, before closing the match with a 30-22 win in game three.

The Wolverines return home November 3rd and 4th to host fellow Division I Independents North and South Dakota State. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7:00 pm (MST).
