BOISE, Idaho - Life on the road can be tough for a young basketball team and Thursday night in Boise the Utah Valley State women found that out the hard way, falling to a hot Boise State squad 85-55. After Wolverine forward
Miriam Palkki opened the game with a three-pointer, the Broncos went on a 23-2 run and never looked back, building a 27-point half time lead.
Boise came out on fire, hitting 11 of its first 17 shots from the field, but it didn't help that the Wolverines committed 18 first half turnovers that led to 22 Bronco points. For the game UV finished with 35 turnovers giving up 40 points off of those miscues.
The Wolverines drop to 2-3 on the season while Boise State moves to 5-0, the first time the Broncos have started that well since 1984 when they won their first six.
Freshman
Robyn Fairbanks led Utah Valley with 14 points while another rookie,
Hollie Beaman, had nine points and 10 rebounds; both career highs for the youngster from Kingwood, Texas. Palkki nearly had a double double as well with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Boise State had big nights from its two stars. Jackie Lee led the Broncos with 21 points while Nadia Begay came off of the bench to score 17 points.
The Wolverines will try to rebound Saturday afternoon at home against Oregon State. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 4:30pm as the Utah Valley State men's team will host Sacramento State at 7:05pm. The game can be heard live on WolverineGreen.com.
