LOGAN, Utah - Utah Valley State fell to in-state rival in Utah State Saturday afternoon in Logan 74-51. The win was the first of the season for the Aggies who now move to 1-5 on the season while the Wolverines drop to 2-6. Utah State used a 14-0 first half run to turn a four point deficit into a 10 point lead.
Utah State led the rest of the way, increasing the lead to by as much as 26 points. Utah Valley was led by
Miriam Palkki's 12 points while Rebekah Fales and
Hollie Beaman chipped in nine points each.
Utah State's Jessica Freeman scored 21 points and was a perfect 7-7 from the floor while hitting 7-10 from the free throw line. Former Utah Valley State player Ashley Rutledge scored 14 against her former team. Ali Marchant had a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Aggies.
The Wolverines hit just 15-56 (27%) from the field while USU shot 43% from the field and 47% from the three point line. The rebounding battle was even with each team picking up 42 boards.
The Aggies held Utah Valley State's top two leading scorers,
Robyn Fairbanks and Sandy Marvin, to just four points apiece.
The Wolverines will have a week off before taking on BYU next Saturday in Provo at 3:00pm. It will be the first regular season game between the two teams. Utah Valley is in the midst of a three game road swing that has them playing three instate team. They will finish off the road swing with a game at Southern Utah on December 20th.
