The Utah Valley State volleyball team travel to Ogden to compete in the Ogden Marriott Weber State Classic September 9-10.
The Wolverines (1-2) will open play with Northwestern State on Friday, September 9th at 5:00 pm (MST), and will play a doubleheader on Saturday, September 10th with Air Force at 11:00 am (MST) and host team, Weber State at 7:30 pm (MST).

Wolverine Update:
Utah Valley State (1-2) is coming off a very solid win at Boise State on September 6th. The Wolverine spikers took the match in four games to earn their first win of the season. Utah Valley owns a 3-0 overall series record over the Broncos.
Junior Lacee Koelliker continues to run the offense efficiently averaging 10.25 assists per game. She has found Anne Olsen and Jessica Endres most often, allowing for Olsen to lead the team with 34 kills (2.83 k/g), while Endres has tallied 30 (2.50 k/g).
Stephanie McFarland continues to lead the team in hitting percentage and currently hits at a .474 clip. Freshman Camie Manwill has been a pleasant surprise notching 29 kills (2.42 k/g) so far on the season.
On the defensive end, Maegan Hoyt has been all over the floor averaging an impressive 4.92 digs per game.
Hoyt and Koelliker were recently honored for their play during the first week of the season. Hoyt was named Division I Independent Volleyball "Defensive Player of the Week" and Koelliker was named Divsion I Independent Volleyball "Setter of the Week."
Scouting the Opposition:
Northwestern State: The Demons come into the Classic with an overall record of 0-2. NSU lost four matches last week in New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina. Whitney King leads the way offensively for the Demons with 20 kills (2.50 k/g) and Juliana Abreu has tallied 17 kills on the season. The Wolverines and Demons meet for the first time, in fact, this will be the first match for Utah Valley against a Southland Conference opponent.
Air Force: The Falcons come into the Classic with an overall record of 2-4. They hosted the Falcon Invitational last weekend going 1-2 on their home court. AFA beat Butler, but lost to Southeast Missouri State and San Jose State. Kristin Hamlett has already tallied 126 kills this season, averaging 5.25 kills per game. Setter Carly Siefken has 273 assists (11.38 a/g) so far this season. The Wolverines and Falcons meet for the first time in the Classic. Utah Valley is 0-5 overall against Mountain West Conference teams.
Weber State: The Wildcats host the Classic and come into the tournament with an overall record of 1-2. They also competed in the Falcon Invitational last weekend, losing to San Jose State, and #10 Wisconsin, before beating Southeast Missouri State. Leah Burmeister leads the way offensively with 54 kills (3.86 k/g). Kolbie Murphy, who was All-Big Sky Honorable Mention last season, has 34 kills (2.62 k/g). Weber State leads the overall series with the Wovlerine 2-0. Utah Valley is 2-3 overall against Big Sky foes.
Last Time Out:
BSU (9-6-05): The Utah Valley State volleyball team defeated the Boise State Broncos in an intense four-game match, 30-23, 18-30, 30-26, 33-31, at Bronco Gym. The Wolverines improve to 1-2 on the season and own an overall 3-0 series record over BSU. Lacee Koelliker had another good match distributing the ball, and keeping BSU off balance. She finished with 44 assists, and added 6 kills. Koelliker finished with a .556 hitting percentage in 9 total attacks with only one error. Koelliker didn't forget about defense either, she added 11 digs which gave her the first double-double of the season (44 assists, 11 digs). Outside hitters, Anne Olsen and Camie Manwill notched double-digit kill numbers, both finishing the night with season-highs. Olsen tallied 14, while Manwill added 12. Middle blockers Jessica Endres and Stephanie McFarland also added some fire power, with 9 and 7 kills respectively, and outside hitter Larissa Laycock chipped in 8 kills. The defensive end was solid as well, with Maegan Hoyt finishing with 17 digs. Manwill added 8 digs, while freshman Bethany Carron and Olsen added 5 apiece.

New Career Highs ...
~ Anne Olsen recorded a career-high 14 kills against Boise State (9-6-05). She moved from Libero to outside hitter this season.
~ Freshman outside hitter Camie Manwill recorded a career-high 12 kills against Boise State (9-6-05).
~ Freshman Bethany Carron recorded a career-high 5 digs against Kansas (9-1-05) and then matched that total against Boise State (9-6-05).
Did You Know ...
~ Maegan Hoyt notched 29 digs against Montana State (9-3-05), just four shy of her own single match school record of 33.
~ Head Coach Sam Atoa paid his way through school by entertaining and dancing at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii.
~ Junior Lacee Koelliker was second among all Division I Independent setters last season with an 11.22 assist per game average. She was also named 2nd Team Division I All-Independent.
~ Freshman Kari Heers' sister Erin was a defensive specialist for the Wolverines in 1996. Erin played with first year Wolverine Assistant Coach Kelsi Carlston.
Double Trouble ...
Lacee Koelliker recorded the first double-double of the season against Boise State (9-6-05). She tallied 44 assists and 11 digs.
Hoyt and Koelliker Receive Weekly Honors:
Utah Valley State volleyball players Maegan Hoyt and Lacee Koelliker were honored for their performances against Kansas and Montana State the week of August 29th - September 4th.
Hoyt was named Division I Independent Volleyball "Defensive Player of the Week," and Koelliker was named Division I Independent Volleyball "Setter of the Week."
Hoyt started where she left off last season solidifying the back row for Utah Valley State. In two matches against Big 12 power Kansas and Big Sky foe Montana State she notched 42 total digs, averaging an impressive 5.25 digs per game, and 21 digs per match. Against KU she had 13 digs, and against MSU she finished with 29 digs. Hoyt's dig total of 29 in the MSU match ranks second in Utah Valley State history for a single match. She was just four digs shy of her own record of 33 set against Northern Colorado last season.
Koelliker continued to be solid for the Wolverines after having been a big part of the offense for the past two seasons. Against Big 12 power Kansas and Big Sky foe Montana State Koelliker notched 79 total assists, averaging 9.88 digs per game and just under 40 assists per match. She also kept the defense off balance with 13 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
IPFW's Fabiana Souza was named "Offensive Player of the Week," Northern Colorado's Liz Franz was named "Newcomer of the Week."
