Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wolverines fall at CS Fullerton

FULLERTON, California - The Utah Valley State women's basketball team dropped to 7-12 on the season following an 84-63 loss at Cal State Fullerton Thursday night.

Robyn Fairbanks and Miriam Palkki both had double doubles for Utah Valley. Fairbanks had 15 points, 13 rebounds and three steals while Palkki scored 13 points to go along with 11 boards. Sandy Marvin had 10 points and three steals for Utah Valley State.

The Wolverines out rebounded Fullerton 44-35 for the game, but gave up 17 offensive rebounds and showed their youth by committing 38 turnovers.

After trailing by eight at the half, Utah Valley got back into the game early in the second frame, trimming the Fullerton lead to four at 41-37 after a Palkki three pointer. But the Titans used a 10-2 run mid-way through the second half to push the lead to 54-41, the biggest lead of the game to that point.

From there, Utah Valley could get no closer than eight points as Fullerton ran away with the victory.

The Titans were led by Toni Thomas' career high 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting. Andrea Adams had 18 for the Titans while Charlee Underwood chipped in 15.

In the first half, after taking an early 6-2 lead the Wolverines allowed Fullerton to go on an 11-0 run to put the Titans up seven. Both teams traded runs throughout the rest of the half with the Titans holding a 37-29 lead at the break.

Utah Valley was led at the half by 10 points from Fairbanks. The Wolverines out-rebounded Fullerton 25-15 in the half but 19 turnovers more than made up for their rebounding edge.

Utah Valley State, still winless on the road, will play at UC Riverside Saturday at 5:05pm MST. Live audio for that game can be found at www.athletics.ucr.edu.
