Utah Valley State Swept at South Dakota State

Oct. 13, 2006

Brookings, South Dakota - Friday the 13th was not good to Utah Valley State as the Wolverines struggled from start to finish in a 30-18, 30-25, 30-19 sweep at the hands of South Dakota State.

It was the third loss in a row for the Wolverines (11-9) and the third straight match in which UV has been swept.

A season high 643 fans saw South Dakota State (16-7) hit .324 for the match, compared to just .191 from the Wolverines. The Jacks hit an impressive .414 in game one and .417 in game three.

Jessica Endres had 13 kills and hit .522, one of the few bright spots for Utah Valley. Camie Manwill had a game-high 14 kills while Lacee Koelliker added 35 assists.

After scoring the first point of the match, the Wolverines saw the Jacks roll of six straight points to take control in their game one win.

UV came back strong in game two, using a 5-0 run early to take a 14-7 lead. But SDSU used a 7-0 run to turn a 21-16 deficit into a 23-21 lead. The Wolverines were within one at 25-24 but that's as close as they could come.

A 16-4 SDSU run in game three broke a 4-4 tie and and gave the Jacks a 20-8 lead, leaving little doubt as to the outcome.

South Dakota State totalled 52 kills on the night with all but two coming from five players. Emily Rooney had 12 kills to lead SDSU with Kristina Martin adding 11 and Amy Anderson, Laura Slagter and Minette Ridenour had nine each. Kristie Klusaw had 40 assists for South Dakota State.

The loss ends a three-match winning streak against the Jacks, with all three wins coming in 2005. The Wolverines will have a chance to avenge the loss when SDSU comes to the Shurian Family Activity Center on October 26th.

The Wolverines will have a quick turnaround with a 4pm Mountain Time match tomorrow in Fargo against North Dakota State. The game can be heard live by going to www.GoBison.com.
