Orem, Utah - After being swept by South Dakota State two weeks ago on the road, Utah Valley State flexed its home muscle with a 30-27, 30-22, 30-16 sweep of its own over the Jacks.
"The girls executed very well," said head coach Sam Atoa. "They stuck to the game plan beginning to end."
Defensively, the team ended with 12 team blocks, a three-game season high. UV also held South Dakota State to just an .089 hitting percentage while hitting .293 overall.
Individually, Jessica Endres led the team on both sides of the ball with five block assists to go along with 13 kills while hitting at a .500 clip.
Cami Manwill also had 13 kills while Ashley Brown had nine and Brooke Adams chipped in eight. Lacee Koelliker had a game high 44 assists for the Wolverines. South Dakota State was led by Kristina Martin's 13 kills.
The Wolverines used a 6-0 run midway through game one to separate themselves from the Jacks. Utah Valley kept that cushion until the Jacks closed the gap to 29-27 before an Ashley Dallin kill put UV up 1-0.
In game two the Wolverines used 12-3 run to build a 22-13 advantage before taking a 2-0 lead with an eight point win.
After the break UV left little doubt with an early 13-3 run and led by as much as 15 before cruising to the victory.
The win pushes Utah Valley's all-time record against SDSU to 5-3 overall and even the season series at 1-1. The two could possibly meet again in the D-I Independent Championships in Fargo, North Dakota in November.
Up next for the Wolverines is North Dakota State on Saturday at 1pm in the Shurian Family Activity Center.
