Nov. 10, 2006

Fargo, North Dakota - Utah Valley State was dominant in its opening match at the D-I Independent Championship, throttling Providence 30-14, 30-14, 30-8.

The win sets up a big match at 7pm against South Dakota State with the winner advancing to Saturday's championship against the winner of the IPFW/North Dakota State match. The losers of the two matches will play at 4pm on Saturday with the championship scheduled for 7pm MT.

Camie Manwill tied a school record with six service aces as the Wolverines set a new record with 15 service aces as a team. Manwill had 12 kills to lead the team while Terin Ledall had 10 kills and set a school record by hitting .833 in the match with 19 or fewer attempts.

Lacee Koelliker had 39 assists and is now 34 assists from reaching 4,000 for her career.

"The girls played very well. They challenged themselves and were very focused on capitalizing with they had the chance," said head coach Sam Atoa. "But tonight for sure is going to be tough. It's like a brawl every time we play them but I like our momentum and if we can keep that I like our chances."

The overall margin of victory is the largest in school history with the 30-8 win in game three the largest single game margin of victory in school history.

The Wolverines hit .416 for the match while holding Providence to just an -.081 percentage. UV had 49 kills for the match compared to just 15 from the Friars.
