Wolverine Update:
Utah Valley State (4-3) is currently on a three match winning streak after going 3-1 last week. The Wolverines bounced back from a three game sweep at the hands of Weber State to go 3-0 at the UCF Fall Classic in Orlando, Florida. UV defeated Furman in five, Samford in three, and host team Central Florida in four to win the tournament title.
Senior setter Lacee Koelliker was named the UCF Fall Classic MVP. Junior middle blocker Jessica Endres joined Koelliker on the All-Tournament team. Koelliker averaged 11.67 assists per game in the tournament while Endres hit .303 with 41 kills (3.42 k/g).
Scouting the Opposition:
ISU: The Bengals come into Wednesday's match at 3-5 after going 1-4 in their last five matches. ISU played five matches in four days last weekend and through Labor Day.
Jessica Gurney leads the Bengal offensive attack with 78 kills on the year (3.00 k/g). Freshman Emily Waldron ranks second on the team in kills with 67 (2.48 kpg.).
Last Time Out:
FU (9-1-06): Jessica Endres' 20 kills helped Utah Valley State to a nail-biting 3-2 win over Furman in the opening match of the UCF Fall Classic. The Wolverines edged Furman 15-13 in the final game to secure the win. Ashley Dallin had 14 kills while Camie Manwill 13 of her own for UV. Setter Lacee Koelliker had 57 assists to go along with eight kills of her own for Utah Valley State. Ashley Brown also had eight kills for the Wolverines.
SU (9-1-06): Utah Valley State took care of Samford in three games 30-25, 30-20, 30-18 in the second match of a doubleheader in the UCF Fall Classic. Freshman Kristin Bromley tallied a team and career-high 11 kills in a match in which every Wolverine hit in positive numbers.The Wolverines hit .278 as a team and held the Paladins to a.142 hitting clip. UV also served aggressively with 10 service aces in the match. Jessica Endres added nine kills and Ashley Dallin tallied eight to make a UV balanced attack. Defensively Chelsea Baugh and Camie Manwill had 15 and 11 digs, respectively.
UCF (9-2-06): After losing the first game 28-30, Utah Valley State came back to win the next three 30-27, 30-20, 30-17 and secure the championship match of the UCF Fall Classic over host team Central Florida. The Wolverines went 3-0 in the tournament and senior setter Lacee Koelliker was named tournament MVP. Junior Jessica Endres joined Koelliker on the All-Tournament team. Three UV players recorded double-doubles in the match. Camie Manwill had 13 kills and 15 digs, Ashley Dallin finished with 12 kills and 12 digs, and Koelliker recorded 47 assists and 10 digs. Endres had 12 kills and Ashley Brown tallied 10 kills to round out a very balanced Wolverine offensive attack. Chelsea Baugh continued to be solid on the back row digging up 24 UCF attack attempts. The Wolverines as a team hit .237 for the match, including hitting an impressive .393 in the final set. UCF only hit .062 in a match in which the Wolverines collected 76 digs and 11 blocks.
Up Next:
The Wolverines host the annual LaQuinta Invitational welcoming Weber State, Oral Roberts, and IPFW to the Shurian Family Activity Center September 8-9. UV plays in-state rival Weber at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 8 and has a doubleheader on Saturday, September 9 against ORU (1:30 pm) and IPFW (7:00 pm).
