The Utah Valley State volleyball team welcomes in-state rival Weber State, Oral Roberts, and IPFW to the Shurian Family Activity Center this weekend to compete in the annual LaQuinta Invitational September 8-9.
Wolverine Update:
Utah Valley State (5-3) is currently on a four match winning streak after coming from behind down two games against Idaho State on Wednesday night to win in five.
The comeback was spurred by a Wolverine balanced attack with four UV spikers recording double-digit kills. Senior setter Lacee Koelliker handled the offense beautifully with 58 assists finding six different spikers on the night. Camie Manwill and Jessica Endres had a match-high 19 kills apiece.
Scouting the Opposition:
WSU: The Wildcats are currently 4-6 coming into the LaQuinta Invitational and are coming off a 3-0 loss at Utah State on Tuesday night. WSU in 2-3 since the last meeting with UV on Aug. 29, a 3-0 Weber win. Since that stretch UV hasn't lost. Leah Burmeister and Kolbie Murphey lead the Wildcat offensive attack averaging 3.37 and 3.33 kpg game, respectively.
ORU: The Golden Eagles are 2-6 coming into this weekend having lost three of their last four matches, including a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Oklahoma on Wednesday night. Ori Zuric is the main offensive threat for ORU recording 158 kills so far this season, an impressive average of 4.94 kpg.
IPFW: The Mastadons are 5-4 on the season heading into this weekend. IPFW started off 0-4 on the season and since then has won its last five matches. They are coming off a 3-0 win over Toledo on Tuesday. Cynara Martins averages 2.81 kpg. She is helped on the front row by Amanda Pfister and Rebekah Roehm who both notch an average of 2.30 kpg.
Last Time Out:
After losing the first two games by scores of 31-29 and 30-28, Utah Valley State came back to win the next three sets, 30-27, 30-24, 15-6, and sneak away from Pocatello with a victory over Idaho State. It was the first win for the Wolverines over ISU in three meetings and it extended the UV win streak to four matches. Four UV spikers recorded double-doubles on the night and senior setter Lacee Koelliker distributed the ball to six different teammates for kills. Camie Manwill and Jessica Endres both tallied match-highs with 19 kills apiece. They both finished in double figure digs with 20 and 14, respectively. Ashley Brown and Ashley Dallin joined the offensive barage with 13 and 12 kills, and Dallin recorded a team-high 22 digs. Koelliker had 58 assists, but didn't let chances to attack pass her by putting down six kills of her own while hitting .462. As a team the Wolverines hit .213 to ISU's .163, including a match-high .357 hitting parade in the finale set to close out the match.

The Wolverines travels to San Jose, California to compete in the Hyatt Invitational next weekend. UV plays host team SJSU at 8:00 pm (MST) on Friday, Sept. 15, and Cal State Northridge (2:00 pm MST) and Harvard (5:00 pm MST) on Saturday.
