Wolverines Sweep Weber in Home Opener

Sept. 8, 2006

OREM, Utah - After playing its first eight matches on the road the Utah Valley State volleyball team remembered that there is no place like home sweeping Weber State in three games, 30-18, 30-25, 30-25 Friday night in the LaQuinta Invitational.

"It's great to home in front of our own fans," said head coach Sam Atoa. "We were in sync and aggressive."

The Wolverines came out firing in game one using a 9-0 run to take a 12-3. A later 5-0 helped UV extend its lead to 17-4. Brooke Adams led the charge with four kills in the set as the Wolverines closed out the game on a 4-0 run.

In game two the Wolverines got down early 3-1, but went on a 5-0 run to take a 6-3 lead. They later extended that lead to 10-5 and eventually 21-12. Weber would hang around, but UV maintained a five point advantage the rest of the way thanks to seven Camie Manwill kills in the set.

Game three was back-and-forth throughout until UV took a one point advantage at 23-22 forcing the Wildcats to take a timeout. After the break the Wolverines would score the next three points forcing another Weber intermission. UV went on to close out the set and the match 30-25.

Manwill notched another double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs. Lacee Koelliker also tallied a double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs and Jessica Endres finished with 14 kills.

The Wolverine defense was solid holding all Weber hitters under double figure kills and a .104 hitting clip. UV also out-blocked the Wildcats 9 to 6.

UV will take its momentum into Saturday with a 1:30 pm match against Oral Roberts followed by a nightcap match with IPFW at 7:00 pm. Weber will play IPFW at 11:00 am, and ORU at 4:30 pm on Saturday.
