Orem, UT- The Utah Valley State men's basketball team hosts fellow Division I Independent Longwood University on Monday at 7 p.m. in the McKay Center. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be heard live on 1400 KSTAR.
This is the fifth meeting between the two schools. Utah Valley holds a 4-0 series lead with the latest game being a 73-63 victory at Longwood last year. Matt Peterson scored a career high 28 points in the victory.
Longwood comes into the game with a 6-13 record. They have lost three straight games after previously winning three games in a row. Maurice Sumter leads the Lancers in scoring at 16.9 points a game. Clayton Morgan is second in scoring at 12.3 points and first on the team in rebounding at 7.4. As a team Longwood is shooting 41 percent from the field and averaging 65.5 points a game.
"Longwood has a veteran team with a go-to star in Maurice Sumter," Utah Valley State coach Dick Hunsaker said. "They have played many games away from Farmville and have found success away from home. We know they will be prepared. Coach Gillian has done a terrific job in building a program at Longwood."
Utah Valley is 10-6 and coming off a 81-70 loss at Utah State on Wednesday. The Wolverines led for the first 25 minutes of the game before USU took the lead for good. Ryan Toolson led UV with 16 points while Peterson and Jordan Brady each had 14 points. Brady also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Toolson leads Utah Valley in scoring at 13. 8 points a game while David Heck is scoring 13.1 points an outting. Brady also leads the team in rebounding at 5.4 boards a game. Brady is shooting a team-best 59 percent from the floor.
The Wolverines return to the court on Saturday to host Johnson & Wales at 7 p.m. in the McKay Center.
