Davis, CA- The Utah Valley State men's basketball team plays at future Big West opponent UC Davis on Saturday at 8 p.m. The game can be heard live on 1400 KSTAR.
This is the first of two meetings between the two teams. On February 6, UC Davis will play the Wolverines in Orem.
Both teams are riding momentum going into Saturday's contest. The Wolverines are 9-5 and just completed a three-game home stand where they beat Southern Utah, Albany and UMKC. Meanwhile, UC Davis ended a four game losing streak by beat Brown 49-47 after a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Vince Oliver.
Oliver leads Davis in scoring at 12.9 points a game. Thomas Juillerat is second in scoring at 11.1 and first in rebounding at 5.4. The Aggies are scoring 67.3 points a game and shooting 39 percent from the field. UC Davis is also 2-2 at home.
"UC Davis has battled through injuries, which has disrupted their flow and continuity of their four returning starters," Utah Valley State coach Dick Hunsaker said. "They are healthy now and coming off a last second win over Brown. We know they are going to be re-energized as they try to look at the New Year as a new season. Coach Stewart's teams are always well-disciplined, prepared and they always play hard."
The Wolverines come into the game with a 9-5 record after beating UMKC 74-59 on Tuesday at the McKay Center. Matt Peterson and Richard Troyer led Utah Valley with 18 points apiece. Troyer also had a game-high nine rebounds.
David Heck leads UV in scoring and rebounding at 13.9 points and 5.3 boards a game. Ryan Toolson is second in scoring at 13.6 points a game. As a team the Wolverines are shooting 47 percent from the field.
Utah Valley returns to the court on January 10 when they play at in-state foe Utah State at 7 p.m. UV's next home game is January 15 against Longwood.
