Utah Ends Utah Valley's Four-Match Winning Streak

Oct. 23, 2007

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley saw its four-match win streak end as the University of Utah swept the Wolverines (30-17, 30-26, 30-15) on Tuesday night in Orem.

Utah (8-11) dominated the stat sheet, hitting .355 for the match while holding Utah Valley to (16-7) to a .067 hitting percentage.

"Utah did exactly what we had hoped to do," said UV head coach Sam Atoa. "They are very well coached and their girls did a very good job."

Terin Ledall led the Wolverines with nine kills while Kayli Broadent had eight. Kristin Anderson hit a team-high .312 with six kills to go along with one block solo and two block-assists while Allyce Wilson finished with 14 digs.

Utah was led by Kathryn Haynie's 13 kills and .500 hitting percentage while Kate Robison added 11 kills.

Utah, who's misleading record coming was clearly a victim of its tough schedule, controlled game one after using a 12-3 run to turn a three-point lead into a 23-11 advantage. The Utes hit .375 in the game compared to just 0.88 for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines played much better in the second game and held a 24-23 lead late following a Utah error. But the Utes ran off four straight points after that before closing out the game by four.

"That was tough for sure," said Atoa of game two. "We were doing some good things and we had our chances but it didn't happen for us."

Utah Valley dug itself a quick hole in the third game, giving up seven straight points before getting on the board.

Despite the loss, the Wolverines have still won 11 of their last 13 with both losses coming against in-state schools. The Wolverines will battle another in-state rival on Thursday when they travel to Logan to play Utah State at 7pm.
