Fairbanks Nets 36 as Wolverines Reach Century Mark Against UC Irvine

Nov. 17, 2007

Box Score

OREM, Utah - Robyn Fairbanks scored a season-high 36 points, including 28 in the first half, as Utah Valley won its fourth straight game to start the season, 103-83 over UC Irvine on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines have won all four games this season by at least 20 points and are 4-0 for the first time in school history.

Fairbanks also had 15 rebounds for her third double-double of the season while Sandy Marvin had 22 points, 10 assists and five steals for her first career double-double.

The Wolverines tied a school record with 31 assists, reaching that mark for the first time against a Division I opponent. The 103 points is also a school record against a D-I foe.

UC Irvine took a nine point lead, 31-22, with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half, the first time this season that Utah Valley has had to fight from behind. But Fairbanks and Marvin methodically helped the Wolverines creep back into the game, with Fairbanks' jumper with 11 seconds left in the half giving UV a 47-45 halftime edge.

"We're getting more mature as a team," said Fairbanks of her team's ability to erase the early deficit. "We've been in these situations before and know how to handle them."

In the second half the Wolverines used a 10-0 spurt early to take a 68-54 lead with 16:52 left in the game. UV never let the Anteaters get closer than 11 points after that.

Julie McMurray added 13 points and Rebekah Peterson had 11 while Asumi Nakayama had five steals and Hollie Beaman dished out six assists.

Stephanie Duda had a double-double for Irvine with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Miranda Forry had 15 points for the Anteaters but had just two points after halftime.

The Wolverines out-rebounded the Anteaters 50-33 and out-shot their opponent 54.5% to 43.9%.

Up next for Utah Valley is 4-0 Seton Hall next Wednesday at 3:05pm MT in The McKay Center. It's the first time that the Wolverines will face a school from the Big East.
