GOLDEN, Colo. - Sam Allen and Benjamin Kjar led the Utah Valley wrestlers as each posted a perfect 4-0 individual record as the Wolverines went 3-1 in dual action at the Jack Hancock Duals.
UV lost to Oregon, 22-13, in a closely contested dual that included three match losses by two points or less before the Wolverines won their final three duals 37-3 over Colorado School of Mines, 29-13 over Newman University, and 48-0 over Air Force's prep squad.
The three wins are one better than UV's 2-2 record at the same tournament last season and puts the Wolverines dual record at 3-1.
Kjar's four victories at the 125-pound class included two major decisions and one technical fall. Allen and Jeff Newby--who finished with a 3-1 overall record--each recorded a pair of falls.
The Wolverines' Flint Ray, who posted a 3-1 record, recorded a fall. Nathan Gardner had an impressive day wrestling up two weights. Gardner normally wrestles at 141 but stepped in at 157 and recorded a 2-2 record.
Gehrhart Vuksinick recorded two technical falls on his way to a 3-1 record on the day while Ramsey Nijim recorded a fall in three matches wrestling at the 184-pound weight class. Nijim, who normally wrestles at 174, recorded a 1-2 record on the day.
Casen Eldredge went 3-1 on the day, including a 2-1 record wrestling at 197 instead of his natural 184. Eldredge won his only other match while wrestling at 184. Zach Williams won his only match at the 197 weight class.
Marc Fenwick posted a 2-2 record at 174 while heavyweight Billy Green went 3-1 for the Wolverines.
The UV wrestlers will wrestle at the Northern Colorado Open Sunday.
