Wolverines Ride Hot Shooting to Ninth Straight Win

Nov. 24, 2007

Box Score

LOGAN, Utah - Utah Valley won its ninth straight game and moved to 6-0 for the first time in school history with an 89-74 win at Utah State on Saturday night.

It's the first time that the Wolverines have won in Logan as they improve to 2-0 on the year against in-state schools.

Sandy Marvin led Utah Valley with 21 points on 7-for-9 shooting and Robyn Fairbanks had 20 as the Wolverines out-shot the Aggies (0-4) 58.6% to 39.4% from the field. Julie McMurray had 15 and Rebekah Peterson had 10 to round out four players in double figures.

Utah Valley found itself behind early in the ballgame, trailing 19-9 with 13:31 to go in the first half, but five straight points off the bench by Susie Cornejo got the Wolverines within five just moments later. Peterson and Blake Reynolds also had key contributions off the bench in the first half that allowed UV to get back into the game.

"The bench was great offensively and defensively. They were ready to attack when they got in the game," said head coach Cathy Nixon.

Utah Valley closed the first half on a 14-5 run capped by a Fairbanks bucket with two seconds left in the half.

The Wolverines took control of the ballgame early in the second half, extending the total run to 33-11 just over seven minutes into the second half and building a 66-45 lead.

Utah Valley led by as much as 27, 86-59, with 4:44 left in the game.

Utah State was lead by Danyelle Snelgro, who finished with 15 points but had just one point in the second half.

Up next for the Wolverines is the Air Force Classic next Friday and Saturday. They will face Ohio on Friday at 7:30pm MT and either Air Force or Hampton the following day.
