OREM, Utah - A Big Sky opponent will be in town as Utah Valley will take on Portland State in UV's annual Homecoming Game Saturday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
"Portland State is a very confident team that has played well away from home," UV head coach Dick Hunsaker said. "Coach (Ken) Bone's teams are always agressive and sound defensively. Their team is anchored by (Scott) Morrison, who is one of the elite big men in the West. He is surrounded by a balanced attack."
The Wolverines and Vikings met last season in Portland. With UV leading a majority of the game, Portland State was able to make a furious comeback and take its first lead with under a minute left in the game. The Vikings held on for the victory last year. This season's matchup marks the second time the two teams have played.
Portland State is led in scoring and rebounds by Morrison, who is averaging 11.7 points per game and 5.7 rebounds. Morrison is shooting 65 percent from the field.
The game will have live radio coverage on AM 1400 KSTAR with Steve Watts calling the play-by-play action. Former UV players David Heck and Matt Peterson will offer game analysis.
Saturday's game will also be the first television broadcast of the season and can be seen live on Comcast channel 17 (in Utah County) as well as MSTAR and IProvo channel 15. The game will also be available on-demand.
After Saturday's game, UV will head back out on the road next week when the Wolverines head to Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara.
