OREM, Utah - Utah Valley hosts Nevada Saturday at 1pm in the final regular season match leading up to next week's Division I Independent Championship in Orem. A win Saturday would set the new NCAA school record for wins in a season.
The Wolverines have been off since last Thursday's sweep of in-state rival Utah State. In the match Jessica Endres hit .520 with 15 kills to lead the team to its first ever win over the Aggies.
On Tuesday, Endres was named the Division I Independent Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Endres, the school's career leader in kills and blocks, is one of three seniors that will be recognized before Saturday's match.
"Jessica has meant so much to the program, from day one," said head coach Sam Atoa. "Her athletic ability has really helped propel our program to another level. It's been great coaching her and to see her improve every year that she's been here."
Chelsea Baugh and Terin Ledall are the other seniors that will be recognized.
"It's been great to have Chelsea for four years," said Atoa. Her enthusiasm for the game and her desire to get better has really helped improve her game and has helped us succeed."
Baugh and Endres are both four-year seniors while Ledall is in her second season on the court in Orem.
"Terin's been a great addition. She's been a delight to work with, a great individual and has fit very well with what we are doing here."
Following Saturday's match, the Wolverines will prepare for the 2007 Division I Independent Championship next Friday and Saturday in Orem. As the #1 seed, UV will face Providence on Friday at 1pm and Texas-Pan American at 6pm in pool play. The winner of that pool will play in the championship match on Saturday at 6pm against the winner of the pool that includes CSU Bakersfield, NJIT and Chicago State.
