Orem, UT- The Utah Valley State men's basketball team plays host to UC Davis on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the McKay Center. The game can be heard live on 1400 KSTAR.
This is the second meeting between the two schools. Utah Valley beat the Aggies 57-38 in Davis back on January 6. The Wolverines held UC Davis to 14 second half points and 30 percent shooting from the field.
UC Davis enters Tuesday's contest with a 4-17 record. Since the Aggies loss to Utah Valley, they have recorded wins over UC Santa Barbara, the second place team in the Big West and Cal-State Northridge. UC Davis will be a member of the Big West Conference next season.
Vince Oliver leads the Aggies in scoring at 12.7 points a game. Thomas Juillerat is second at 12.3 points and first in rebounding at 4.9 boards a game. UC Davis scores 66 points a game and shoots 39 percent from the floor.
"We caught UC Davis back in January on a bad shooting night," Utah Valley State coach Dick Hunsaker said. "They have since regrouped and have a win over Big West leader UC Santa Barbara on the road. We know they'll be well-prepared and revenge-minded to play us."
The Wolverines are 15-7 and have won nine of their last 11 games. In the latest RPI rankings posted by the NCAA, Utah Valley has a 149 ranking, which is higher than any Big Sky Conference team.
Last week Utah Valley defeated United Basketball League foes New Jersey Institute of Technology 86-55 and IPFW 96-66. The Wolverines are currently second in the league with a 3-1 mark. North Dakota State is 4-0.
The United Basketball League is a six-team playing league (IPFW, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Texas-Pan American, South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Utah Valley) formed by Division I Independent schools. Each team will play each other home and away. Post season awards will be handed out at the conclusion of the season.
Ryan Toolson scored a career high 28 points against New Jersey and averaged 25.5 points on 15 of 20 shooting from the field in Utah Valley's two games last week.
Toolson leads the Wolverines in scoring at 14.3 points a contest while David Heck is second at 12.5 points a game. Jordan Brady is the top rebounder at 5.3 a contest. He is also shooting 58 percent from the floor.
Following Tuesday's game, the Wolverines travel to United Basketball League foe Texas-Pan American for a 1 p.m. tip off.
