Box Score

Provo, UT- The Utah Valley State softball team dropped a 12-3 six inning game to BYU Tuesday evening at Gail Miller Field. The loss drops Utah Valley to 22-27 while Mountain West Conference leader BYU won its 14th straight game and improved to 34-16.

Utah Valley managed only four hits in the game and BYU pounded out 13 and had a big seven run second inning. Jasmine Joyce, Cari Hamilton, Lindsay Dyer and Heidi Boyer recorded the Wolverines hits.

The Wolverines took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to a solo-homerun by Dyer. BYU then responded by batting threw the order and scoring its seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 7-1. The scoring was highlighted by a Stephanie Platt homerun.

UV answered in the third with two runs to cut the BYU lead to 7-3. Joyce started the scoring with a one out single to right field. Hamilton then platted Joyce with a triple to left-center. Cheryl McGraw scored Joyce on a ground-out to second base.

"Overall I like the teams fight," Utah Valley State coach Todd Fairbourne said. "I like how we got a couple of runs after their seven run inning. We fought hard. I am happy because I felt like as a team we competed and didn't roll over."

BYU tallied a run in the fifth and then ended the game in the sixth on a Jodi Norton three-run homerun over the left-center fence.

Ashly Forsberg suffered the loss by pitching five innings and allowing 15 hits.

The Wolverines return to action on Saturday to host Idaho State in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
