OREM, Utah - Utah Valley opens its 2007 schedule on Friday night at home against the Wyoming Cowgirls at 7pm in the Shurian Family Activity Center. The Wolverines hold a 1-0 all-time series lead after defeating the Cowgirls 3-2 on October 14, 2005 in Laramie.
"The team is definitely excited and anxious to get on the court and compete," said head coach Sam Atoa. "It will be good to get out there and see where we are and where we need to improve. There are questions that need to be answered and we won't know until game-time how the girls will respond to some things...we're looking forward to getting started."
The Wolverines return three starters including libero Chelsea Baugh and two All-Independent selections in first-teamer Jessica Endres and second team selection Camie Manwill.
The team will have to replace the loss of the 2005 & 2006 Independent Setter of the Year, Lacee Koelliker, who is now on the sidelines as Atoa's assistant coach.
Wyoming will also be playing in its first match of the season on Friday. The Cowgirls return five starters, including their libero, from last season's 13-15 team.
Wyoming is one of three Mountain West (BYU & Utah) opponents on this year's schedule.
Head coach Pat Stangle has a 38-45 record in three seasons in Laramie.
