Volleyball Hosting UV/LaQuinta Invitational This Weekend

Orem, Utah - Utah Valley welcomes Arizona State, San Jose State and Weber State to Orem this weekend for the 2007 UVU/LaQuinta Inn & Suites Invitational.

The Wolverines will face in-state rival Weber State on Friday at 7pm and then on Saturday will battle San Jose State at 11am and Arizona State at 7:30pm.

UV swept three matches last weekend to win the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis. The Wolverines defeated Tennessee Tech in five games before topping Northern Illinois (3-1) and host Butler (3-0).

Jessica Endres was named tournament MVP after averaging 4.25 kills, 1.25 blocks and 4.96 points per game. Camie Manwill was also named to the all-tournament team.

Freshman Kayli Broadbent also had a solid showing at Butler, averaging 3.42 kills while hitting an even .300.

Endres passed the 1,000 career kills plateau in last weekend's win over Northern Illinois. Endres, who holds a career hitting percentage of .324, currently has, 1,022 career kills.

This season, Endres is off to another good start with averages of 4.06 kills and 1.29 blocks while hitting .376.

Manwill will presumably be next on the list to reach 1,000. The junior currently has 855 career kills heading into this weekend's action.

Weber State's season as mirrored Utah Valley's so far. The Wildcats, like UV, lost their season opener to Wyoming in five games before winning three straight.

WSU (3-1) swept the North Florida Labor Day Classic in Jacksonville, Florida by winning nine straight games over Texas-San Antonio, SE Missouri State and North Florida.

Utah Valley and Weber State have played six times with Weber winning four of the six matches. The teams will also play in Ogden on October 30th.

San Jose State won the Arkansas State/Bancorp South Classic in Jonesboro, Arkansas last weekend, going 2-1 in the tournament.

The Spartans (4-2) defeated Northwestern State and Murray State before falling to host Arkansas State.

Arizona State (3-4) hosted the Hilton Phoenix/East Mesa Challenge last weekend and finished 3-1.

The Sun Devils defeated Long Island, Iowa State and Northern Arizona, but fell 3-2 to New Mexico.

The Wolverines will face a tough test next week when they travel to the Michigan/Nike Invitational, hosted by #14 Michigan.

The UV Wolverines will face the Michigan Wolverines and Georgia Tech on Friday, September 14th and Temple the following day.
