Lindley Shines in Senior Night Win

Nov. 7, 2008

OREM, Utah - Senior Night for the Utah Valley University women's volleyball team (9-11) saw the lone senior, Kristi Lindley, set the Wolverines to a .302 attack percentage and a three-set win (25-17, 25-19, 26-24) over Houston Baptist (21-7) Friday night.

Lindley is second on the all-time assists leaderboard at UVU and holds the top three spots in assists in a single game since UVU began NCAA competition. She added 37 to her career total Friday and now has 1,916 in her two seasons at Utah Valley with matches still left to play.

Other leaders in Friday's match included sophomore Kayli Broadbent who led all attackers with 14 kills and a .344 attack percentage in the match. Freshmen Jaicee Kuresa and Faith Tusieseina also had nine kills apiece, and junior Kristin Anderson added eight. Junior libero Allyce Wilson recorded 21 digs in the three sets, marking the second time she has earned 20+ in a three-set match this season.

"I think there is a lot of pressure on senior night to perform well and send our seniors out on a good note," UVU head coach Sam Atoa said. "Our girls did a nice job protecting our home court tonight, which is what they've done all season."

The Wolverines won the first set 25-17 in true team fashion with seven players recording at least one kill and none recording more than three. As a team they hit .312 and held the Huskies to a -.080 attack percentage. Seven Wolverines also recorded 19 total digs in the set with Wilson leading the way, tallying seven herself.

The second set went to UVU 25-19. Broadbent led all attackers with six kills in the set, and Wilson racked up 10 more digs on defense. Lindley set the team to a .295 pace with 15 assists in the set. Defensively, UVU held HBU to a .178 attack percentage and outblocked the Huskies 2-1.

Lindley opened the third set with a service ace, one of only two on the night for Utah Valley. Although Houston Baptist would tie the set late at 24-24, Utah Valley never allowed the visitors to take the lead. Broadbent had five more kills in the set on only eight swings while Lindley racked up 12 more sets. The defense held HBU to a .097 attack percentage with 10 total digs and one total team block.

Only two matches are left on the Wolverines' schedule before they host the 2008 NCAA Division I Independent Championship Nov. 21-22. Utah Valley will play at BYU-Hawaii Wednesday and at Hawaii Saturday with both matches slated to start at 7 p.m. HT.
