Wolverines Go Cold in Loss to San Diego in Hawai'i

La'ie, Hawai'i - After building an 11-point lead early in the second half, Utah Valley went cold and lost the lead and the game to San Diego, 81-70, on Saturday at the Hukilau Invitational on the campus of BYU-Hawai'i.

The Wolverines (3-5) led 49-38 with 14:56 left before the Toreros (6-3) used a 15-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 53-51 lead with 10:26 remaining.

After Sandy Marvin-Wall hit a three to put UVU up 62-51 at the 5:51 mark, Morgan Henderson took over for San Diego, hitting back-to-back three pointers and scoring 10 points to lead her team on a 14-2 run, leading USD to to the win.

Robyn Fairbanks, Julie McMurray and Marvin-Wall combined for 65 points with Fairbanks' 28 leading the way. The senior now has 1,995 career points, five shy of 2,000 for her career. McMurray and Marvin-Wall both finished with 19.

The Wolverines, who hit 51.6 percent from the floor and had a six-point lead at the half, shot just 33.3 percent in the second half and finished the game 28-for-67 (41.8 percent). Conversely, San Diego rebounded from just 34.2 percent in the opening half to hit 56.3 percent over the final 20 minutes and 44.3 percent (31-for-70) for the game.

Kiva Herman led the Toreros with 25 points while Henderson, who had 16 in the second half, and Amber Sprague both had 19.

San Diego's trapping defense forced 13 steals and Utah Valley into 21 turnovers, leading to 26 Torero points. The Wolverines had the slightest of edges in rebounds, 41-40.

The Wolverines will be off until Saturday, Dec. 13 when they host Idaho State at 3 p.m. in The McKay Center.
