OREM, Utah - After running away with the first game, Utah Valley fell in its second as the Wolverines split their home-opening double header with College of Idaho, 8-0 and 4-2.
Alli Bramwell pitched a gem for the Wolverines (3-9), striking out a career-best nine hitters while surrendering just one hit in picking up the shutout victory in game one.
Heidi Stocks provided much of the offense for the Wolverines as she combined for four hits in the two games. Stocks went 4-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBI in the two games. Meghan Woodworth added a homer for the Wolverines.
Brooke Judy pitched the Lady Yotes to victory in game two as she surrendered just one earned run in going the distance.
UV broke open game one with five runs in the bottom of the third inning to open the scoring. Woodworth led the inning off with a single and scored on a RBI walk by Stocks later in the inning. UV scored three when Sara Roskelley got an RBI and reached base on a throwing error that scored two more runs and landed her at third base. She later scored on a ground out.
The Wolverines added two in the fourth on Woodworth's home run, a one-out solo shot to center field and a Stocks sacrifice fly to score Magan Niemann.
The game ended when Jessica Anderson scored on a sharply hit RBI grounder by Woodworth in the bottom of the fifth to give the Wolverines an 8-0 advantage and win by the mercy rule.
UV started game two right where it left off in the first game. Woodworth led the inning off reaching on an error and scored three-batters later on a double from Stocks.
College of Idaho scored four unanswered runs on three homers to take a 4-1 lead. The Lady Yotes got solo home runs from Haley Butcher (fourth inning) and Katie Zillner (sixth inning) and added a two-run shot for insurance in the top of the seventh. Stocks hit a laser solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to trim the lead to 4-2 but the Wolverines couldn't get any closer.
UV will next play at the UC Riverside Invitational next Friday when the Wolverines take on Iowa at 10 a.m. (PT)
