OREM, Utah - Jordan Brady scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds as Utah Valley rode a 46-22 second half on its way to a 78-51 win over Cal State Bakersfield.
With the win, the Wolverines clinched their 25th consecutive winning season with a 15-14 record. Fellow senior Richard Troyer added 13 points and four rebounds while hitting a game-high three three-point shots.
"We played arguably our best half of the season," UV head coach Dick Hunsaker said. "I'm happy for our kids and for our seniors. Richard (Troyer) had a great defensive game for us and Jordan Brady had a superb game. It means a lot for our guys to get a winning record as they help build a winning tradition during these transitional years."
The Wolverines led most of the tightly contested first half as they jumped to an early 5-0 lead. CSUB answered with a 9-3 run to take its first lead of the game at 9-8 on a Terrence Johns jumper. The Wolverines responded when Ryan Toolson hit a three on their very next possession to take the lead for good at the 11:13 mark of the first half.
Utah Valley built as big as a seven point advantage at 32-25 with under two minutes to play in the half but the Roadrunners scored the final four points of the period to cut the deficit to three at the break.
The second half was all Utah Valley. Brady started the period with a monster alley-oop dunk as the Wolverines started the half on a 20-7 run to build a 16-point advantage at 52-36 with 12:04 remaining in the game.
UV built as large as a 29 point lead late in the game as the Wolverines hit on nearly 62 percent of their shots from the field in the second half. Defensively, UV held CSUB to just 38 percent shooting and 0-for-6 from long range in the final period.
Toolson scored 15 points to finish the season averaging 23.4 points per game. Josh Olsen rounded out double-figures scorers with 13 points while adding a game-high five assists.
