POCATELLO, Idaho - Utah Valley completed a 5-0 season against Idaho State as the Wolverines swept a double header from Idaho State, 10-0 and 4-2. UV (11-29) has now won three consecutive games.
"Alli (Bramwell) pitched well again today for us," UV head coach Todd Fairbourne said. "And everyone contributed offensively."
Bramwell pitched complete games in both contests, improving her record to 8-13 on the year. Bramwel struck out 13 while surrendering just two walks on the day.
After a scoreless first inning in game one, the Wolverines exploded in the second. UV sent 10 batters to the plate, scored seven runs and picked up five base hits. Kylee Steadman got things started for UV with a single and scored three batters later when Magan Niemann connected with a two-run double. After a RBI single by Meghan Woodworth, Cherylyn McGraw knocked in a pair of runs with single. Heidi Stocks pounded her eighth homer of the season to cap the inning, a two-run shot.
UV added to the lead in the third as the Wolverines got three RBI doubles in the inning from Niemann, Woodworth and McGraw to go ahead 10-0.
Meanwhile, Bramwell cruised, allowing multiple base runners in just one inning. She struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by virtue of the eight-run rule.
The Wolverines started game two with an early lead, scoring a runin the top ofthe first on a Stocks RBI triple. Idaho State came back to tie the game on a home run by Heather Dixon in the bottom of the fourth.
UV would respond in the next half inning and take a lead it wouldn't relinquish. Niemann connected with her third double of the afternoon with one out in the inning and scored on a RBI triple from Woodworth. Bramwell would help her own cause as she scored a run on a RBI off Stocks' bat.
ISU would add another run in the bottomof the sixth and make things interesting in the bottom of the seventh getting the tying run at second base with one out in the inning. Bramwell pitchedout of the jam to get the win for the Wolverines.
UV will have a quick turnaround as the Wolverines will play host to Northern Colorado in double headers on Monday and Wednesday next week. Monday's games start at 3 p.m.
