OREM, Utah - Head coach Sam Atoa and the Utah Valley University women's volleyball team continue their season this weekend at the Jayhawk Invitational in Lawrence, Kan. with matches against Kansas, Central Florida, and No. 13 Oregon. UVU will play KU and UCF on Friday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. MST, respectively, and OU on Saturday at 4 p.m. MST.
The Wolverines are 0-2 this season after dropping matches to Utah and Santa Clara at the Ute Invitational last weekend. Despite the losses, bright spots for UVU included junior middle blocker Kristen Anderson, redshirt freshman Jaicee Kuresa, and freshman Chelsey Garfield. Anderson tallied 13 blocks at the Invitational averaging 1.62 per game. Kuresa and Garfield led the team's attack with 18 and 15 kills, respectively, between the two matches.
Kansas is 1-1 on the season after sweeping North Carolina State and being swept by Virginia Commonwealth. Sophomore Karina Garlington, who averages 3.83 kills per game, leads the Jayhawk offense.
Central Florida is 2-2 on the year and is coming off a 0-3 loss to No. 3 Stanford. As a team, the Knights are hitting .170 on average, and are led by sophomore Janine Williams' 3.72 kills per game.
The No. 13 Ducks are 2-1 on the year with wins against No. 23 New Mexico State and North Carolina. The team's lone loss came in five sets at Illinois who went from being unranked to No. 19 after the win over then-No. 11 Oregon. The ducks have five players who average more than two kills per game, including Neticia Enesi who also averages more than two blocks per game.
