Week 8 Notes
OREM, Utah - After suffering a tough 3-2 Great West Conference loss to NJIT last week, the Utah Valley Wolverines will look to get back on track with the first of three matches of the week beginning Tuesday night when they host Utah State.
The game, which can be seen live on UVU-TV, is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Shurian Family Activity Center. Utah State enters the match on a two-game losing streak after dropping matches to Fresno State and Nevada.
Although Utah State holds a 4-2 all-time series advantage, the Wolverines have won two of the last three matches against the Aggies, including a 3-1 win at the Weber State Invitational earlier this year.
In that match, junior OH Kayli Broadbent, senior OH Camie Manwill and sophomore S Chelsea Fa'alogo all tallied double-doubles.
Broadbent led the Wolverines with 22 kills and 12 digs, while Manwill added 16 kills and 10 digs and Fa'alogo recorded 49 assists and 10 digs.
Following the match with Utah State, the Wolverines return to Great West Conference action when they host Texas-Pan American (4-14, 2-5) Thursday. UVU is 12-1 all-time against the Lady Broncs. UTPA has lost four straight matches and six out of their last seven this season.
The Wolverines have won the last eight matches against the Lady Broncs and seven of them have been 3-0 decisions. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Shurian Family Activity Center.
Utah Valley will conclude the week with a non-conference match-up with Idaho State (8-9) Saturday night in Pocatello. Prior to the match with UVU, the Bengals play Weber State Wednesday night and Seattle University on Friday.
The Wolverines beat the Bengals, 3-1, in the Wolverine Invitational in mid-September. In that win, Manwill recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs, while Broadbent had 17 kills.
UVU is 5-3 all-time against ISU and 2-2 in matches played in Pocatello.
The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
