UVU Notes
OREM, Utah - Utah Valley will play their second-to-last non-conference match of the season when they travel to Southern Utah for their second-ever meeting with the Thunderbirds and first-ever meeting in Cedar City.
UVU senior OH Camie Manwill (Paradise, Calif./Paradise HS), who already is UVU's career leader in kills per set (3.73), attack attempts (4,063); service attempts (1,518) and points per set (4.27), needs just three more kills to move past Jessica Endres for first-all-time in career kills. Manwill currently has 1,399 career kills. She is the only player in school history with 1,000 or more kills and digs (1,204).
Also, a victory would give the Wolverines 15 wins - one more than they had last year (14-12). The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Centrum in Cedar City.
Utah Valley (14-7, 5-1) won the first-ever meeting - 3-0 - between the two schools on Sept. 22, 2009, in Orem. UVU's Kayli Broadbent and Manwill recorded 10 kills each, while freshman Erica Nish added eight.
The Thunderbirds (6-14, 4-7) enter the match with a victory after beating Western Illinois, 3-1, Saturday night in Cedar City, while the Wolverines have won two straight matches, including a 3-2 over Idaho State last Saturday. In that match, Broadbent recorded a season-high 25 kills to give her over 1,000 kills for her career (1,001). She is one of three players (Manwill, Endres) in UVU history with more than 1,000 kills.
Following the match with the Thunderbirds, the Wolverines host Houston Baptist in their second-to-last home match of the season Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Shurian Family Activity Center in a GWC contest.
The Huskies (9-15, 3-5) have won their last two matches, including a 3-0 Great West Conference victory over Chicago State last Saturday.
The Wolverines are 1-0 all-time against the Huskies.
