STARKVILLE, Miss. - Turnovers and second-chance points hurt Utah Valley as the Wolverines (2-2) fell 81-35 at No. 25 Mississippi State on Wednesday.

UVU turned the ball over 33 times leading to 33 points off turnovers while the Lad Bulldogs (3-0) pulled down 21 offensive rebounds, allowing for 27 second-chance points.

The inability to take care of the basketball led two long first-half scoring droughts as Mississippi State raced out to a 41-14 lead by halftime.

After Erika Newbold gave the Wolverines a 2-0 lead less than a minute in, the Wolverines went nearly seven minutes without a point before a Kaycee Mansfield free throw made the score 14-3.

Six minutes later, MSU had rolled off 18 straight to make it 32-3.

Kayla Burningham knocked down a 3-pointer with 3:10 left in the half to make the score 36-10. It was just the second field goal of the game and the first in over 16 minutes. The Wolverines did use an 8-0 near the end of the half to cut into the lead but 19 of the 33 turnovers had been committed by the break.

In the second half, Mississippi State pushed the lead up to as much as 49 on its way to the easy win. UVU was outrebounded 45-33 and hit just 28.6 percent from the floor. MSU shot 42.5 percent from the field and got up 73 field goal attempts to just 42 by Utah Valley.

The Wolverines were led by 11 from Burningham while the Lady Bulldogs had five players in double figures with Alexis Rack's 16 leading the way. Tysheka Grimes added 14 and Mary Kathryn Govero had 13. Rima Kalonda led all players with nine rebounds.

Utah Valley will now travel to Farmville, Virginia to face Longwood on Friday at 5 p.m. MT. The game can be heard live at WolverineGreen.com.
