OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley women struggled offensively in a 57-43 loss to Ohio on Thursday night in The McKay Center. The Wolverines (3-6) were led by 15 points from Julie Smith but hit just 27.3 percent (15-for-55) from the field.

Erika Newbold had another strong game for UVU, setting a career high in rebounds for the second straight game with 10 to go along with seven points.

The Bobcats (3-3) scored 30 points in the paint with much of that coming from Maxine Ohakim, who led all scorers with 16. Danielle Woodmore finished with 11 points as she and Ohakim combined for 27 bench points for Ohio, which also converted 21 Utah Valley turnovers into 22 points.

The first 10 minutes of the game set the tone as the Wolveirnes started just 2-for-9 from the field and trailed 15-5 at the 9:52 mark of the first half.

Utah Valley trimmed the lead to five at the break, 24-19, on the strength of a 7-2 run to end the half with four points coming from Newbold.

The Wolverines got within four at 38-34 with 8:43 left, but Woodmore stole an inbound pass and went on to score and get fouled, pushing the lead to seven.

The closed UVU would get after that was seven, when Kayla Burningham knocked down a three with 2:55 remaining but the Bobcats scored the next nine points to push the lead to a game-high 16, 55-39.

Burningham finished with eight points for UVU with Jenna Johnson adding six off the bench in 14 minutes.

Ohio shot 44 percent for the game with Ohakim going 8-for-12. Playing a big factor in the Utah Valley's poor shooting night was a 3-for-17 outing from the 3-point line, just 17.6 percent.

The Wolverines did out-rebound the Bobcats, 40-34, with 18 of the boards coming on the offensive glass.

Utah Valley now heads to Ogden for an in-state matchup at Weber State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
