Box Score

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Utah Valley led early in the series finale at New Mexico Sunday afternoon but the Lobos (3-0) managed to comeback on their home field and defeat the Wolverines (0-3) 8-3.

"We're not a very good defensive team," UVU head coach Todd Fairbourne said. "With that said, our middle infield and catchers played solid defense but other than that we are not very good. Our pitchers too can get better. Hats off to New Mexico because they took it to us for the most part this weekend."

The Wolverines got off to another good start as they pushed across three early runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 advantage. Mandy Tapia led off the inning by reaching base via an error and she later scored on an RBI single from Amanda Robinson. Amanda Perez then stepped up and delivered the big blow of the inning as she slugged out a two-run home run to right field.

The Lobos then got their first runs of the game in the second inning as they put up a two-spot. UNM scored two more runs in the third inning to take the lead for the first time in the game at 4-3.

In the fourth, New Mexico's Kaity Ingram hit her second triple of the game to plate another run and give the Lobos a 5-3 advantage. UNM added to its lead in the fifth when Danielle Castro hit a two-run homer. The Lobos finished their scoring in the sixth with a single run.

UVU freshman Josi Summers started in the circle and went four plus innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits. Senior Kyli Flanary came on to replace her in the fifth and pitched two innings of solid relief where she only allowed a solo run in the sixth.

Perez led UVU from the plate as she finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. One of the two hits was that two-run home run in the first, while the other was a single in the sixth. Other than Perez and Robinson, Charlee Cisneros, Samantha Telarroja, Deianna Russell and Kyli Flanary also posted hits for UVU.

As a team the Wolverines had seven hits compared to 12 for the Lobos.

UVU will look for its first win next weekend, Feb. 18-20, when it heads to Lubbock, Texas to participate in the Texas Tech Invitational. The Wolverines will play Texas Tech three times and Bryant University twice.
