March 23, 2012

Game 1

Game 2

FARMER'S BRANCH, Texas -- Cassie Herrera threw a three-hit shut out Friday to lead the Utah Valley Wolverines (14-6-1) to a 1-0 victory over Nebraska-Omaha to earn a series split in the first day of the Great West Conference cluster.

The Wolverines are back in action Saturday with a double-dip against North Dakota at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. MT.

In the win, Herrera struck out one and walked three in improving to 3-1 on the season. UNO's Kat Barrow limited the Wolverines to just four hits in taking the loss.

The game was tied at 0-0 heading into the bottom half of the seventh before Kylee Brinkerhoff belted the leadoff walk-off homer to center to earn the split.

In Game 1 against UNO, Tiffany Mills was tagged with a tough loss in dropping to 8-4 on the year.

Mills, who allowed three hits, didn't give up her first hit until the sixth, and UNO eventually tallied three unearned runs

"Our pitchers obviously were great, Brinkerhoff came up huge," UVU softball coach Todd Fairbourne said. "With only seven hits on the day it's nice to escape with a win."

In the loss, Krystin Jachim had two hits.
