Photo GalleryOREM, Utah—The Utah Valley men's soccer team played 24th-ranked Seattle U to a 1-1 double overtime draw Friday night at Clyde Field in the WAC opener for both teams.

The draw moves Utah Valley's record to 4-3-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in WAC play. Seattle U turns its record to 5-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference action. The match was the Wolverines' third against a top 25 foe in the last four matches with UVU posting a 1-1-1 mark in those contests.

"We knew coming into the game that Seattle is a very good and experienced team," said Utah Valley head coach
Greg Maas. "Our preparation this week was fantastic. The game was an opportunity for us to really establish ourselves in the WAC. We put a lot of emphasis in this game and it was very well played on both sides."

Seattle U was first to strike, taking an early 1-0 lead on a goal into the lower left corner by Hamza Haddadi less than eight minutes into the match. Brady Ballew and Ian Hines Ike both assisted on Haddadi's 10th-minute goal, his second of the year.

The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Redhawks into the second half and the until the 63rd minute, when UVU freshman forward
Karson Payton delivered a direct free kick from 25 yards out on a ball that went untouched and past the keeper for the equalizer. It was Payton's second goal of the season.

Utah Valley out-shot the Redhawks 20-14 on the night with Payton leading the way with a game-high seven shots, including two on goal. Haddadi led SU with three shots.

Freshman keeper
Collin Partee played all 110 minutes in goal for the Wolverines. He made six saves on the night, including a pair in overtime.

The Wolverines will host two more WAC matches next week, with Grand Canyon coming to Clyde Field on Friday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. before a contest with UNLV on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m.
