SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The Utah Valley University men's basketball team will play its fifth of seven straight road games at Sacramento State Monday night at the Nest in Sacramento, Calif. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. (MT).

Sacramento State returns all five starters from a season ago, and eight of its top nine scorers. The list is headlined by senior guards and team co-captains Dylan Garrity and Mikh McKinney, who combine to make up arguably the best back court in the Big Sky Conference.  Each of the Hornets' five newcomers are true freshmen.

The Hornets bring a 3-1 record into Monday night's game against the Wolverines. After dropping a 105-58 decision to 13th-ranked Gonzaga to open the season, Sacramento State has won three straight, including a road win at UC Riverside (70-69) and wins at home over Simpson (74-42) and Bristol (97-63). McKinney leads the team in scoring through four games, averaging 17.7 points per contest. McKinney was a unanimous first team all-Big Sky selection last season. He scored a season-high 22 points at UC Riverside and at against Bristol at home. He is shooting 64.5 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from beyond the arc.

"Sacramento State is a veteran team," said Utah Valley head coach Dick Hunsaker. "They are well coached by Brian Katz and have high expectations for the season. We are really going to have to regroup and come out with a lot of energy for this ballgame."

Monday night's meeting between Utah Valley and Sacramento State will mark the fifth time the two schools have met on the hardwood. The Wolverines own a 3-1 all-time series lead over the Hornets. Since dropping a 71-69 decision at Sacramento State on Dec. 30, 2004 in the two teams first-ever meeting, Utah Valley has won three straight over the Hornets. The last time the two teams met in Sacramento was on Dec. 9, 2008 with the Wolverines taking a 64-44 win.

Utah Valley enters Monday's contest with a 3-2 record. The Wolverines dropped a 64-43 decision at undefeated UC Davis on Saturday night. Junior guard Marcel Davis led Utah Valley with seven points, five rebounds and three assists in the setback to the Aggies.  Davis scored his team-high seven points on 2-of-4 shooting from the field, including a 2-of-4 clip from the charity stripe. Brenden Evans, Donte Williams and Eli Robison each added six points in the loss. Mitch Bruneel led the Wolverines with a game-high five assists. UC Davis shot 51.9 percent (27-for-52) from the field and knocked down seven three-point field goals. The Aggies held Utah Valley to a 29.4 percent clip from the field on the night.

Through five games this season, Bruneel leads the Wolverines in scoring at 13.0 points per contest. Zach Nelson is leading the team in rebounding, pulling down 6.8 boards per game. Davis fronts the team in assists at 4.2 per game.

Monday's game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. (MT) and will be broadcast live on 960 AM The Zone.
