SEATTLE, Wash.—The Utah Valley University women's soccer team came up just short in its WAC Tournament semifinal match, falling 1-0 to Missouri-Kansas City Friday night at Championship Field on the campus of Seattle University.
Â
"I'm very proud of this team and what they accomplished this season," said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson. "They wore their heart on their sleeve tonight and put everything they had into the match. It is always difficult to play back-to-back matches like we did and you could see they were willing but the energy was dropping as the game wore on."
Â
The loss wraps up a record-setting season for the Wolverines, who broke single season school records for wins (13) and shutouts (9). The team also picked up its first-ever WAC Tournament win with Thursday's 2-1 overtime victory over UTPA.
Â
Jessica Duffin recorded a season-high eight saves in between the posts against the Kangaroos on Friday night. One of the eight saves included a diving stop on a UMKC penalty kick.
Â
Seven different players tallied a shot for the Wolverines on the night.
Lexi Robison,
Kalli Suesue and
Tori Smith each put a shot on goal.
Â
"I have to say how privileged I am to have been able to work with this team this season," Anderson said. "We had three amazing seniors and they can be very proud of their contributions to this team and our program."
Â
UMKC's Taylor Andrzejewski scored the lone goal of the match in the 54
th minute after receiving a cross from Kara Priest on front of the box.
Â
With the win, UMKC advances to Sunday's championship match against tournament host Seattle U. The winner will receive the WAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
