Mitch Bruneel led the Utah Valley University men's basketball team with a team-high 15 points while junior guard
Donte Williams added 10 in a 65-56 setback to Sacramento State Monday night at the Nest.

With the loss, Utah Valley's record evens at 3-3. Sacramento State improves to 4-1 with the victory. The game marks the fifth of seven straight road games for the Wolverines, who will continue road play at Montana State Saturday night.

Despite trailing by 14 points, 39-25, at halftime, Utah Valley battled back and cut the lead to just six points, 62-56, with 2:17 remaining. The Wolverines then missed a shot to cut the lead to five points and Sacramento State hit a free throw and a field goal to secure the win.

"I thought we gave a good effort tonight," said Utah Valley head coach
Dick Hunsaker. "I thought we worked hard and pulled for one another. Sacramento State was just too much for us. They have a number of weapons and they hurt us from numerous spots on the court."

Bruneel scored his 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. He also knocked down 7-of-8 free throws and tallied four rebounds. Williams' 10 points marks his second double digit scoring game of the season.

Sophomore guard
Zach Nelson was just one point and one rebound shy of his first double-double of the season. Nelson also tallied two assists, two steals and a block to go along with his nine points and nine rebounds.

Nick Hornsby led Sacramento State with a career-high 20 points with five rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Sacramento State shot 56.8 percent (25-44) from the field on the night while limiting Utah Valley to a 39.6 percent clip (21-53). The Hornets knocked down 6-of-15 shots from long range. Utah Valley went 0-for-11 from three-point range in the first half and finished the game 3-of-19 from the arc.

Utah Valley continues road play on Saturday against Montana State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. MT.
