OREM, Utah-The Utah Valley University women's basketball team will host Air Force Academy on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the UCCU Center, after which they will travel to Pocatello to see Idaho State on Saturday Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. in Reed Gym.
Air Force (1-8) travels to Utah Valley (4-5) after being defeated by Denver 107-66 on Monday night. Air Force is coached by Andrea Williams who is in her fifth year at Air Force. In the 2013-14 season, AFA finished with a 1-28 record overall and finished in 11th place in the Mountain West Conference. The Academy returns nine letterwinners and three starters in Jimi Blagowsky, Madeleine Philpot and Christina Gamble. Blagowsky leads the Falcons with 12.7 points per game and 2.4 rebounds. The Falcons were picked to finish in 11th place in the MW pre-season poll.
In the series, Air Force leads 2-1 all-time in three meetings. The last meeting was Jan. 2, 2013 in Clune Arena, a 70-60 Wolverine win.
"We have been working on consistency and I hope that we are able to come out and build on the aggression and intensity that we had in the Boise State game and carry that over to win another game," head coach
Cathy Nixon said. "We haven't really done that all year, carry consistency over from game to game, and win at home back to back and then go to Idaho State and do it on the road as well."
Idaho State (2-5) will travel home to host Utah Valley following a match-up at the University of Utah on Dec. 10. ISU was picked to finish in eighth place of 12 in the Big Sky pre-season poll. Apiphany Woods leads the Bengals with 11.9 points per game while teammate Grace Kenyon is close behind with 10.9 points per game and 6.1 rebounds on average.
Idaho State leads the all-time series 6-5 with the last meeting on Dec. 20, 2013 at UVU with a Utah Valley win (59-56).
Utah Valley enters the weekend coming off of a win against Boise State, 68-60, on Saturday Dec. 6.
Rhaiah Spooner-Knight led all scorers with 19 points and eight rebounds while
Rebecca MaWhinney finished with 14 points and added a game-high nine boards.
