Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 3 Arizona defeats Utah Valley, 87-56

TUCSON, Ariz.—Chad Ross scored a career-high 12 points and Marcel Davis added 10 to lead the Utah Valley University men's basketball team in an 87-56 setback to No. 3 Arizona at McKale Arena Tuesday night.

Utah Valley falls to 3-5 with the loss while Arizona wins its 36th-straight regular season non-conference game to improve to 9-0 on the season. No. 3 Arizona marks the highest ranked opponent that Utah Valley has ever faced.

The game wraps up a streak of seven straight road games for the Wolverines who return home to host in-state rival Utah State on Saturday, marking the first time that the team has played at home since hosting South Dakota on Nov. 14.

"I thought we competed, worked hard and gave our best effort," said Utah Valley head coach Dick Hunsaker. "They are arguably the top team in the country and I thought there were a number of things we can build on from this game moving forward."

The Wolverines got off to a quick start, taking a 16-14 lead after junior guard Jaden Jackson hit a shot from beyond the arc with 13:24 remaining in the first half.  Arizona then re-took the lead and never trailed again as the Wildcats opened the second half on a 20-2 run to help secure the victory.

Ross scored his career-high 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, including a 2-of-2 mark from three-point range. Davis tallied his 10 points on a 20of-4 clip from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 mark from the charity stripe.

Donte Williams and Zach Nelson eached added eight points, while Eli Robison and Mitch Bruneel each recorded five.

Freshman Stanley Johnson led four Wildcats in double figures with 14 points. Dusan Ristic scored 13 points while Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Gabe York added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Utah Valley returns home to the UCCU Center to host in-state rival Utah State on Saturday, Dec. 13. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MT.
