Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Utah Valley Defeats UTEP, 2-0, at Clyde Field

OREM, Utah-The Utah Valley University women's soccer team recorded its third-straight shutout, defeating UTEP 2-0 Friday night in front of 1,139 fans at Clyde Field.

With the win, Utah Valley keeps its unbeaten streak alive at five games and improves to 4-2-1 on the season. UTEP falls to 5-1-1 with its first setback of the season.

"UTEP is a great team and we knew this would be a big challenge for us," said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson. "We had a great crowd tonight and the fans got behind us. We came out with an attacking mentality and had great player interchange."

Kalli Suesue gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute after receiving a corner kick from McKell Salmon and blasting a shot in between a pair of UTEP defenders.

"That's are first goal off a corner kick this season," Anderson said. "McKell put the ball in a great spot and Kalli finished it off perfectly."

Utah Valley put the game away in the 84th minute when Lexi Robison sent a free kick directly to teammate Kim Stratford who sent the ball past the UTEP keeper and into the back of the net.

"Lexi had great vision on that goal," Anderson said. "She knew Kim would be in the right spot at the right time. Kim finished it off and put it in the back of the net. It was a great play."

Jessica Duffin led the defensive effort in goal for the Wolverines, picking up seven saves on 11 UTEP shots. The win marks Duffin's third straight shutout in goal this season.

Utah Valley wraps up its seven game home stand on Sept. 19 when the Wolverines host UC Riverside. Kick off is set for 5 p.m.
