OREM, Utah – In the midst of a seven-game homestand, the Utah Valley University women's soccer team is set to host Wyoming on Friday at 7:30 p.m. MT before an in-state matchup with Southern Utah on Monday at 7:30 p.m. MT.
The Wolverines (1-2-1) are coming off of two unbeaten contests last week to open the home schedule, starting with a noteworthy 2-1 victory over Big 12 Baylor last Friday evening. UVU also played Boise State to a 1-1 draw two days later.
Against Baylor, junior Kasandra Anderson booted an impressive goal from 25 yards out early in the contest and Kim Stratford put in the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to beat the Bears. Anderson was named to the CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll and Stratford was named the College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week.
In the tie against Boise State, Taylor Kirk scored a first half goal for the Wolverines, who lead for over 50 minutes until the Broncos got the equalizer late in the match to force the overtime. Neither team was able to muster much in the way of offense in the two extra frames.
Wyoming is 1-3-0 entering Friday's contest. After a 1-0 win over Montana in their home opener to improve to 1-1 on the year, the Cowgirls have lost their last two games in overtime: at Idaho State and at Weber State. Southern Utah is 1-1-1 and plays Friday at UTEP. The Thunderbirds are coming off of a convincing 5-0 win over Bakersfield.
Following this weekend the Wolverines will again host two matches next week with UTEP coming in on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. MT as part of a Homecoming doubleheader with the men's team. UVU also hosts UNLV on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. MT.
