OREM, Utah – Kali Stubbs scored twice and Sara Callister added her first career goal as Utah Valley University scored a 3-0 win over Wyoming on Friday at Clyde Field in front of 885 fans. With the win the Wolverines (2-2-1) remain unbeaten at home thru three matches this season.
Stubbs, who was named to the All-WAC Preseason team, scored in the 25th minute on assists from Kim Stratford and Melanie Ostler. Stubbs fired from 25 yards out and her shot skipped past the keeper and into the left side of the netting. That was the only goal of a defensive first half that only saw two shots on goal, both from UVU.
In the 63rd minute, Kasandra Anderson fired a shot that was deflected by Cowgirls' (1-4) goalkeeper Georgia Rowntree off the cross bar where Stubbs followed with a header into the back of the net to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead. Callister scored in the 84th minute on Anderson's second assist of the match; Callister and Rowntree converged on a 50/50 ball that squirted away from the Wyoming keeper and left the Wolverine freshman free to notch her first goal.
The shutout for Utah Valley and goalkeeper Jessica Duffin is the team's first of the season. Duffin had three saves including one in the final second of the match to preserve the shutout. The Wolverines will next host Southern Utah on Monday at 7:30 p.m. MT in the lone in-state home match of the season. It's Pink With a Purpose night at Clyde Field and anyone wearing pink can enter the game for free.
