Box Score EVANSTON, Ill. – An ill-fated own goal late in the match had Utah Valley University on the wrong end of a 1-0 contest against Loyola University Chicago on Sunday afternoon. The game, played at Northwestern University, was part of the Doubletree Hotel North Shore Chicago Classic and was the Wolverines' (1-2-0) second match in just over 24 hours.
"The resiliency of our players to battle back-to-back days was great," said UVU head coach
Greg Maas. "I couldn't laud our performance and effort more. The result was unfortunate but our overall play was outstanding. The guys left it out there."
Other than the own goal, which came in the 83rd minute, UVU limited the Ramblers (3-0-0) to just one shot on goal for the match. The goal came when the Wolverines were trying to clear a ball 15 yards in front of their own goal but was mishit.
Utah Valley looked to have taken the lead midway through the first half when
Austin Buxton found the back of the net, but he was ruled offside, negating the score.
Paul Hoffmeister and
Skyler Milne were both named to the All-Tournament Team for Utah Valley, which will now return home to host Gonzaga on Friday at 7:30 p.m. MT.
Friday's match against caps Homecoming Week at UVU and is part of a doubleheader with the women's team, which hosts UTEP at 5 p.m. MT.
